Before the road test
- 180 days on the permitThe Level 1 permit is held 180 days without a conviction immediately before applying.
- Minimum age16 years old
- Conviction-free on the permitEach conviction, including a phone citation, restarts the 180 days from its date.
- Form DMV-10-GDL or Driver Education CardA parent or guardian signs the 50-hour log. Bring it, or the Driver Education Card, to the Level 2 application.
When they can drive
- 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.No permit driving in these hours.
