- 180 days on the permitThe learner’s permit is held 180 days, unless the learner turns 17 first.

- Clean record on the permitA parent or guardian also confirms no at-fault crash and no moving, seat belt, curfew, drug, or alcohol conviction.
- Driver education certificate30 classroom hours and 8 hours behind the wheel. Louisiana requires it before the learner’s permit.
- Signed statement of hoursA parent or legal guardian signs at the Office of Motor Vehicles, or has the signature notarized if they cannot come.
