- Six months on the permitThe instruction permit is held six months before the provisional licence.
- Minimum age16 years old
- Six months without a convictionA traffic conviction, suspension, or revocation in the six months before applying pushes the licence back.
- 10 hours in harder conditionsNight, rain, snow, ice, or fog. These hours are part of the 40.
- Signed consentA parent or guardian signs form D1 in front of DMV staff, or a notarized form 433 if they cannot come.
